The fireflies here are a kind of novelty to me and when I watch them in the trees outside the house, I’m still not convinced they are real. It might be part of why I am so mesmerized by them and want nothing more than to sit surrounded, and watch them for hours. But really, bioluminescence always mesmerizes me that way.
I found Yayoi Kusama’s work today, and her installment ‘Fireflies on the Water’ is having that same effect - I can literally feel my body longing to be there in that room! She has taken up permanent residency in the Seiwa Hospital for the Mentally Ill, and something about that is inspiring to me.
